Vishal released after 8 hours of detention

The Tamil Nadu police released actor Vishal, after detaining him for 8 hours on Thursday (20 December), for trying to open the locks of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council office in T Nagar. The actor is the president of the council.

A group of 300 producers, led by AL Alagappan and actor JK Ritesh had locked the offices in T Nagar and Anna Salai after demanding the resignation of the president and his committee for misappropriation of funds, and ‘criminal activities’ after election. The group also accused that Vishal has not delivered on the promises he made during his election.

When the actor attempted to return to his office, by breaking the lock, the police on guard took him into preventive custody. Speaking to India Today, a news channel, the actor said, “Unauthorised people came in and locked the office. I have respect for the police and I am here with them. I am willing to put forth the accounts and submit books. The general body meeting was called off because of Ilaiyaraaja’s concert. In March 2019, we will have another general body council meeting.”

Meanwhile, the group led by Alagappan has submitted a petition to Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. With directors P Bharathiraja and actor S Ve Shekher in tow, the group has also handed over the key to the offices to the registrar who will conduct further investigations.
