Rajesh Shringarpure, Bhushan Pradhan, Kamlesh Sawant choose ego over faith

Shimga is a festival akin to Holi celebrated in some parts of Konkan. The trailer to director Nilesh Krishna’s Marathi movie Shimmgga focusses on happenings in a village around the festival and its celebration by the locals. The festival is celebrated by taking out a procession with a sacred paalkhi (palanquin).

While the storyline is not completely clear from the trailer, it seems to be about two warring groups in the village. One is headed by Rajesh Shringarpure and Bhushan Pradhan, and the other by Kamlesh Sawant. Both parties demand first rights to the festivities, and the ensuing feud leads to a lockdown of the village temple.

The trailer lacks a proper flow, and looks like a mixture of songs with a few random scenes thrown in. It is also unclear if Shringarpure and Bhushan’s characters are brothers.

Shringarpure gained fame for playing a character similar to Raj Thackeray in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj (2008), the second film in the Sarkar franchise. He then played similar characters in Marathi movies Zenda (2009) and Swarajya…Marathi Paul Padte Pudhe (2011). He gets to play the lead role in Shimmgga.
