Luka Chuppi has a positive first weekend, Sonchiriya staring at massive defeat

After Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), it looks like Kartik Aaryan is on his way to deliver another hit in the form of Luka Chuppi. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, has earned Rs30.50 crore in its first weekend, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.

Also starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi, Luka Chuppi opened to Rs7.75 crore on Friday and, had a jump on Saturday with Rs9.75 crore. Sunday saw a bigger jump in the collections at Rs13 crore.

As per trade sources, Luka Chuppi is made at a budget of approximately Rs25 crore and was released on around 2,500 screens. The film has not only crossed its production cost, but is also expected to collect a good number today as it’s a national holiday on account of Mahashivratri.

The weekend numbers for Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya, which was also released on Friday, remained appalling. After earning only Rs1 crore on its opening day, the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer showed no growth on Saturday as it collected the same amount.

Interestingly, Aditya Dhar’s Uri: The Surgical Strike has earned more than Sonchiriya in its seventh weekend at Rs2.25 crore. Its grand total currently stands at a massive Rs239.57 crore.
