Lalit Prabhakar goes bold, revolutionary with his ideas

Director Sameer Vidwans’s Anandi Gopal is based on the life of Anandi Gopal Joshi, considered the first Indian woman doctor. Her husband Gopal Joshi played a huge role in ensuring that she became the first Indian woman to study medicine.

The first teaser of Anandi Gopal features Gopal (Lalit Prabhakar). It establishes his character and the revolutionary nature of the film.

Gopal comes across as stubborn and assertive, much to the dislike of society. He insists on marrying a girl who knows how to read and write. Education for women was considered taboo in the late 1800s, when the story takes place.

Gopal did not think much of religious and social beliefs, and does not hesitate to state his point of view. At one point in the teaser, he says he does not mind marrying a girl from a prostitute’s family. The dialogue ‘Mee haramkhor manushya aahe ho’ sums up his rebellious nature.

Prabhakar, who appears in a different role, seems promising as Gopal Joshi. He maintains a fair balance between calmness and toughness. He has previously acted in travel-themed films Hampi and TTMM – Tujha Tu Mazha Mee, and Chi Va Chi Sau Ka in 2017.

The Anandi Gopal teaser also gives a glimpse into the production design department’s efforts to recreate the 1800s Maharashtra.

Vidwans, known for his directorial debut Time Please (2013), will handle a period film for the first time. Anandi Gopal will be released on 15 February.
