Jim Carrey on Sonic the Hedgehog: “Playing Evil Is Fun!”

One of the many films to world premiere footage at this year’s CinemaCon was Sonic the Hedgehog. The film marks the feature debut of director Jeff Fowler and stars Ben Schwartz as the titular hedgehog who finds himself in our world, where he develops a relationship with James Marsden’s Tom Wachowski and of course must go toe-to-toe with the villainous Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey.

Shortly before getting to see the footage, I got a few minutes with Carrey on the red carpet backstage. He talked about why he wanted to be part of Sonic the Hedgehog, how much fun he had playing the villain, and more. In addition, if you’re not aware, Carrey has been producing a ton of artwork about what’s going on in our country and releasing it on Twitter on an almost daily basis. At the beginning of the interview, I asked him about his art and why he feels that everyone needs to have a voice right now.

Check out what he had to say in the player above and below is the Sonic the Hedgehog synopsis.

Juvenile delinquent Sonic the Hedgehog and local policeman Tom Wachowski must stop Dr. Eggman from completing his plans for world domination.
