Jack Dylan Grazer Talks Shazam! While Comic Book Shopping

Comic Book Shopping is back, and this week welcomes Shazam! standout, Jack Dylan Grazer. Comic Book Shopping is hosted by Collider Heroes’ Coy Jandreau and gives guests the opportunity to tap into their inner comic book fan by spending some time browsing the racks at local comic book shops in Los Angeles. Past guests have included David Harbour, Michael Rooker, Michael Giacchino, Frank Miller, Zachary Levi, and many more industry heavyweights.

Grazer co-stars opposite Levi (and his other half, Asher Angel) as Freddy Freeman, a wisecracking teen who’s targeted by some school bullies. Freddy’s love of comics and real-life superheroes come in handy when Billy is transformed from a 14-year-old boy to a supercharged hero who has to save his city from the villainous Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong). The film, directed by David F. Sandberg, is a bonafide hit, earning over $300 million worldwide since its April 5th debut.

Grazer first lit up the screen in 2017’s horror smash hit IT. He’s also appeared on multiple television series and is set to reprise his role as the young Eddie Kaspbrak in this fall’s highly anticipated sequel, IT: Chapter Two. Grazer came by Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood to browse the aisles with Coy and to discuss how it feels to be in two gigantic franchises at such an early age. If you haven’t yet, be sure to catch Shazam! in theaters right now and keep an eye out for brand new Comic Book Shopping installments coming to the Collider Video YouTube channel real soon!

Here is the official synopsis for Shazam!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
