Fast and Furious Franchise Banishes Long-Time Producer Neal Moritz

Welcome back for a brand new episode of our flagship show, Collider Movie Talk! Today Perri Nemiroff is joined by John Rocha and Jeff Sneider to talk about some of the hottest movie news stories of the day.

First up on the line-up today is producer Neal Moritz getting the boot from the Fast and Furious franchise. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, after what’s described as a bitter legal dispute over the Fast and Furious spin-off movie, Hobbs & Shaw, Universal opted to drop Moritz from that film and also banish him entirely from any role in future Fast and Furious films. The Movie Talk team weighs in on this decision and discusses how it might impact the franchise’s future over at Universal.

In addition, we have a ton of very hot projects coming together at the Cannes Film Festival right now. Perri, John and Jeff opt to highlight three on today’s show – a Cliffhanger reboot, Fatman starring Mel Gibson, and Down Under Cover. That last one has Chris Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish attached as cops who team up “to crack a series of baffling casino heists in which the prime suspects are a troupe of Australian male erotic dancers.” Fatman will see Gibson playing an unorthodox Santa Clause and then that Cliffhanger reboot will feature a female lead with Jason Momoa taking a key cameo role in the movie. Ana Lily Amirpour, the director behind A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and The Bad Batch is on board to helm the film.
