Dipangshu Acharya’s lyrics glorify the eternal power of love

‘Kichhu Chaini Ami’, a song from Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming film Shah Jahan Regency, has been launched online.

Actor Anirban Bhattacharya, who essays a pivotal role in the film, has lent his voice for the song composed by Prasen and written by Dipangshu Acharya.

A love song, ‘Kichhu Chaini Ami’, originally known as ‘Raajkumarir Gaan’, features Bhattacharya, Swastika Mukherjee and Parambrata Chatterjee.

Mukherjee reprises the character of Karabi Guha, played by Supriya Devi in Pinaki Bhushan Mukherji’s Chowringhee (1968), while Chatterjee plays the protagonist Shankar.

The song begins with an unspoken exchange between Bhattacharya and Mukherjee and shifts to their moments of togetherness in the rooms and various locations of the Shah Jahan Regency. They spend intimate moments, make love and enjoy their favourite sports on television. There are moments of tension as well as blissful ones under starry nights.

The song then focuses on Shankar, who wanders the streets of Kolkata alone and gets uncomfortable when he finds Mukherjee in an embarrassing situation. She is then seen to be clinging to Shankar desperately as her last resort, leaving the latter, who is but a mere employee of the hotel, in utter confusion.

The song ends with visuals of the amorous playfulness between Bhattacharya and Mukherjee.

The lyrics draw a fairy-tale idea of romance dreamt by a princess. The song speaks of the eternal longing for love across ages and glorifies the emotion beyond the hollowness of civilization and mortality. Love becomes synonymous with hope and all the optimistic promises that beckon souls back from the clutches of the inevitable death.
