After the super success of Stree (2018), Rajkummar Rao is set to work with producer Dinesh Vijan in yet another horror comedy. The film is titled Rooh-Afza and it also stars Varun Sharma, popular for his character Choocha in the Fukrey series.
The title refers to a rose-flavoured soft drink and also spirits (rooh). In a chat with the tabloid Mumbai Mirror, Vijan said that “there is nothing sweet about this Rooh-Afza”. The story is set in Moradabad and is based on another folk legend. The legendgoes that new wives have to struggle to keep their grooms awake on the first night of their wedding.
While explaining the story, Vijan told the tabloid, “At the same time the chudail [witch] is trying to put him to sleep with a lullaby. It is believed that if a groom dozes off, she proceeds to possess his bride in a bid to make his marital life hell. The film is a laugh riot all the way while at the same time talk of the legend and the spirit will have you looking around yourself, wondering if she is anywhere close by.”
The director and the rest of the cast will be revealed later.
The film is co-produced by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the director of Fukrey (2013) and Fukrey Returns (2017).
